Health Administrators- A Must for Quality Healthcare
Health administrators plan, supervise, coordinate and direct a health care center for quality service and manage the working stuffs. Their responsibilities may vary depending upon the size of the facilities. There are two types of tasks- generalized and specialized. Generalized responsibilities involve managing the entire system. On the other hand, specialized administrators have to take care of a specific department. Health administrators are employed often to maintain and develop specialized standards, measures, and plans for various official events. Health care administrator is also liable for emerging and expanding platforms for scientific research, medical and vocational recovery, preventive medicine, and community health and facility.
Health administrators work in office environment. For smaller facilities health service managers may have to work personally to do all the tasks. But in large centers, there may be assistants to help and work in different areas and finally report to him/her. They may have to work around the clock as they have to take administrative decisions on emergencies. They may also have to move to other facilities.
Students wanted to be a health administrator should take courses algebra, economics, government, accounting, political science, health education, and English, geometry, psychology, sociology, and computer skills in high school. Then they must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Most organizations, however, asks for at least a master's degree in health services administration, or business administration. You will get extra preference if you have some experience. Most bachelor and masters programs have an administrative internship section.
Health administrator job employment is expected to grow between 21% and 35% through the year 2010. Opportunities will pop-up in home health care, long-term care, managed care tasks and consulting firms. The best chances will be for people having strong business and management experience and a graduate degree. Many facilities formerly offered in hospitals will move to domestic facilities and practitioners' offices due to the technological improvements. As hospitals become larger and more complex, health administrators having experience will grab the best jobs.
