Nature of Work

Pharmacist jobs involve dispensing prescribed drugs with their side effect, accurate dosage, and interactions. So, they need to know the chemical and physical effects of the drugs on human body. The patients rely on them after doctors for completing their treatment.

Pharmacist job environment is clean and well-lighted and ventilated. Pharmacists have to stand on their feet all day long and when dealing with hazardous products they have to wear precautious measures. Pharmacist jobs involve 40 hours per week but more than 5o hour work week in 2008 for about 12%. Along with full time jobs there are part time jobs (19%). Many pharmacies are open 24/7, so there are shift duties on weekend, late night. Pharmacist jobs work place is not only limited to pharmacies, it can be sometimes care centers to monitor patients drugs.

Training & Education

Students who want to be pharmacist should take courses of basic science in high school like biology, chemistry, geometry, physics, computer skills, health and medical basic education. After completing school, you can join pharmacy degree program lasting 2 years undergraduate course followed by 4 years qualified study. You have to be graduated from accredited school, pass state board exam and have an internship under licensed pharmacists for your license.

Money magazine claimed pharmacist jobs to be on position nine among top fifty jobs in America. 230,000 pharmacists were employed and expected to increase by a rate of 25% by 2014. In 2007, there were about four thousand vacancies in chain pharmacies. Pharmacist jobs pay a decent amount of money. In 2004 the average pharmacists’ income was $83900 which increased to $98,300 by 2006. The income of pharmacist job is now ranging between $75,200 and $105600.
